Lopburi
Lopburi ("monkey city") is very popular among tourists, and located 140 km North to Bangkok and 260 km to Pattaya.
The city is divided into two parts: the old and the new city. Most of the attractions are located in the old part of Lopburi. There is also a railway station connecting Chiang Mai and Bangkok.
Phra Prang Sam Yot, three prangs from the Khmer period are located in the old city. Three "towers" are designed in the typical style of Angkor Wat and are now a symbol of the city. Most of the Javanese monkeys live here and in the opposite sanctuary of San Pra Cannes. The sanctuary is now a monkey sanctuary and the only place where monkeys are officially allowed to be fed.
Wat Phra Sri Rattana Mahathat also evokes the Khmer period with its magnificent prang. The temple was the central sanctuary. The complex itself covers an area of 3 hectares.
It's a good idea to visit the museum if you are interested in fascinating history of Lopburi. You can see a large collection of ancient art, weapons and artifacts at the Palace built by Phra Narai Ratcha Niwet for King Narai in 1665.
